Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo has reaffirmed the need for mental revolution to boost the spirit of hard work, optimism, unity, and civility and to strengthen national character.

The government needs support for its mental revolution program, which can strengthen the work ethics and basic attitude towards life of Indonesians, the head of state said here on Friday in his state of the nation address to mark the 70th anniversary of Indonesias independence, which falls on August 17.

He added that optimism, politeness and good behavior are crucial for the survival of the nation.

"Currently, there is a tendency for everybody to feel free, extremely free, to behave as they please and express their opinions. This condition is less productive, with even the media preferring to chase ratings rather than to encourage the public to uphold noble values and productive work culture," he stated.

Without political civility, legal obedience and economic discipline, the nation will lose optimism and fail to face economic challenges, Jokowi pointed out.

He also emphasized that unity is one of the crucial necessities to face the existing challenges.

"With Indonesians sincere support, patience, and optimism, God willing, the fundamental transformation of the national economy being carried out by the government will yield good results," he remarked.(*)
