Jakarta (ANTARA News) - International crime syndicates have used Indonesia as a location for conducting their operations, according to the Jakarta Metropolitan police.

"Now, Indonesia is no longer the location of the victims of transnational crimes but has slowly changed into a place for international crime syndicates to carry out their criminal operations," Director of General Crime Investigation of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Command, Senior Commissioner Krishna Murti, stated here on Thursday.

He affirmed that international syndicates have used Jakarta as the location for carrying out their operations.

He said several crime syndicates have entered Indonesia, organized their activities, rented places, and carried out criminal acts.

"The actors have been recruited from China, and the main actors are members of Yakuza, Japan," he revealed.

Krishna stated that big syndicates were controlled from Taiwan including in Indonesia, China, and Japan.

The Jakarta police arrested 40 Taiwanese and Chinese nationals on Jalan Parangtritis IV Number 20 in Ancol, Pademangan, North Jakarta, at around 1:30 p.m. local time, on Thursday, including six women who were the alleged members of an international extortion syndicate targeting Taiwanese and Chinese citizens.(*)
