Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - Two citizens of Papua New Guinea (PNG) were arrested by the local police on the Indonesia-PNG border for carrying two kilograms of dried marijuana.

Both citizens of PNG were arrested following a tip-off from Skofro village head Soleman Krom who claimed that two people were carrying suspicious items, Head of Public Relations of Papua Police Senior Commissioner Patrige stated here on Monday.

The suspects are Ronald Koware and Joe Wanefo who were arrested for carrying two kilograms of cannabis, concealed in a sack and plastic bag, while making their way through Skofro village, Keerom district, on Saturday, August 22.

Currently, both the residents of PNG are being detained at the Keerom Police Station for questioning, he noted.

Skofro is one of the villages located directly adjacent to PNG. As a result, the area is used as an entry and exit point by the citizens of PNG and the residents of Indonesia to smuggle across prohibited items, including cannabis, Patrige added.(*)
