"As per my target, it will be done by the end of September", the President said while visiting the 25th dike point in Porong, Sidoarjo, on Tuesday.
The compensation will be paid from the governments budget amounting to Rp767 billion and has already approved by the House of Representatives.
"The total compensation amount is Rp767 billion, of which Rp155 billion has already been paid and Rp164 billion will be paid tomorrow", President Widodo confirmed.
The President, who is also known as Jokowi, urged the relevant stakeholders and the public to jointly complete the administrative processes properly.
"I have conveyed to the minister, the head of the Sidoarjo Mudflow Mitigation Agency (BPLS), the governor and to the district head, to not delay or restrict the payments, and that all of it should be paid soon", he remarked.
The President also asked the victims to use the compensation money for constructive purposes.
"On average, each family will get Rp300 million, which is quite big. So do not use it for reckless consumption, but for something useful", Jokowi urged.
"Those who have got the money should use it to buy a lot or to build a house, or to pay off debt. Do not to buy unproductive, but productive things", he added.(*)
