"The formation team has agreed (on the new chairman). And congratulations to KH Maruf for this mandate," Chairman of the MUI Ninth Congress Formation Team Din Saymsuddin said when announcing the results of the congress.
Maruf Amin is concurrently the chairman of the advisory council of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).
Anwar Abbas was appointed as the MUI secretary general and KH Slamet Effendy Yusuf and Yunahar Ilyas as deputy chairmen, and Amani Lubis as treasurer.
Vice President M Yusuf Kalla is slated to officially close the MUI congress later in the afternoon.(*)
