Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) invited some 100 market traders in Jakarta for a luncheon at the State Palace on Thursday.

"This afternoon, I want to gather inputs about market problems related to management and prices as well as their expectations regarding future policies," he affirmed.

The traders came from various markets in the capital including Pasar Jatinegara, Pasar Pramuka, Pasar Ikan Muara Angke, Pasar Induk Kramat Jati, Pasar Pagi Kramat Jati, Pasar Minggu, Pasar Makassar, and Pasar Kue Subuh Senen.

The president said he was not averse to discussing market problems with the traders, although it was the Jakarta governors responsibility to address their issues.

"Admittedly, handling the problems is the responsibility of Mr. Ahok (Jakarta Governor) and not the president. But, it does not matter. I just want to know what problems they are facing, and I will convey them to the governor," he affirmed.

Jokowi expressed his continued commitment to help in structuring the layout arrangements for sidewalk vendors.

He further appealed to the relocated sidewalk vendors to not violate the regulations.

"So, in order to formulate better policies in future, I would like to get inputs from you all, the agents of the economy. I want to know the real condition on the field. As such, in accordance with my current post, it becomes my responsibility to ensure that the formulated policies match up to your day-to-day expectations," he stated.

He noted that in July, the government slashed the interest rate on smallholder business credit (KUR) from 23 percent to 12 percent.

The government has set itself a target to extend KUR to Rp30 trillion this year, and the figure is expected to increase to Rp120 trillion next year, he emphasized.

On Tuesday, President Jokowi also held a luncheon for motorbike taxi, minibus public transport, and pedicab drivers at the State Palace.

"I have invited them here just to have lunch. I have no other interests," the president noted in his welcome speech to the drivers.
