Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi at the Merdeka Palace on Friday afternoon.

The head of State welcomed President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi in the veranda of the Merdeka Palace at 04.20 p.m. Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB).

The two leaders then attended a state memorial ceremony, accompanied by a 21-cannon salute.

The ceremony was followed by a meeting between both the presidents and a bilateral meetings between the two countries delegations.

During the meeting, Jokowi was accompanied by Foreign Minister, Retno P. Marsudi, Coordinating Minister for Economy, Darmin Nasution, Defense Minister, Ryamizard Ryacudu and Religious Affairs Minister, Lukman Hakim Syaifuddin.

According to Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Arrmanatha Nasir, Egypt is Indonesias biggest trading partner in North Africa, with the total bilateral trade having touched US$1.4 billion last year, and Indonesia enjoying a surplus.

Nasir emphasized that the total Indonesian investment in Egypt has reached US$260 million, which is mainly in the instant food products, textiles, tires, and glassware industries.

As both Indonesia and Egypt are members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the two countries presidents and delegations also plan to discuss the progress made through their efforts to harmonize Islam and democracy.

During his visit, President Al-Sisi is also scheduled to meet the Secretary General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Lee Luong Minh.
