Manado, N Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale rocked the North Sulawesi provincial capital of Manado on Wednesday evening.

The epicenter of the earthquake which struck at 03.40 p.m. local time was located 1.82 degrees northern latitude and 126.52 degrees eastern longitude or 125 km southwest of West Halmahera in neighboring North Maluku province at a depth of 10 km, Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Office in Manado Robert Owen Wahyu said.

Wednesdays earthquake had almost the same epicenter as the 7.3-magnitude earthquake which struck the province last year, he said.

The earthquake prompted local residents including those working at storied buildings to rush outdoors.

There was no immediate report of casualties or injuries. (*)
