Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) is extending access to information for the public by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indonesia News Agency (LKBN) ANTARA.

The MoU was signed by BMKG Chief Andi Eka Sakya and Director of LKBN ANTARA Saiful Hadi at Wisma Antara, Jakarta, on Friday.

"LKBN ANTARA plays an important role in providing information to Indonesia. I am really pleased that we have inked an MoU," BMKG Chief Sakya noted after signing the agreement here, Friday.

According to Sakya, the cooperation with ANTARA is one of the ways to disseminate news on all matters relating to weather, climate, and natural disasters, among others.

It is important, so that the people will be more concerned about their surrounding environment. Their awareness about natures behaviors, especially related to a catastrophe will be increased, he added.

According to Director of ANTARA Hadi, the state-owned company, which he led, is ready to support the BMKG to educate the people.

"The BMKG needs to educate the community, and we realize that it is not an easy task to do," Saiful stated.
