Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police have named 25 suspects for the chaos at a rally outside the Presidential Palace, held last Friday to protest against the government regulation on wage system.

"None of the suspects has been arrested," Head of the Public Relations Service at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal, said here on Monday.

The suspects comprise 22 workers, two lawyers and a student, he said.

Police sent the suspects home after they had undergone questioning last Saturday, Chief of State Security Sub-directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Fadli Widiyanto, said.

He said police investigators intensively questioned the 25 suspects who were arrested for their involvement in the chaotic rally.

The dossiers of the 25 suspects will be later conveyed to the public prosecutor office for further processing, he said.

The suspects have been charged for violating article 216, article 218 of the penal code, adjunct Article 7 letter related to the National Police Chiefs regulation.

The regulation stipulates that anyone who ignored the polices order could be sentenced to up to four months in jail.

Police dispersed the demonstrators after they ignored the order of the police personnel to disperse the rally by 06.00 p.m., as per the rule.

While the police dispersed the rally, some workers insisted on staying put there, leading to a clash with the police personnel.(*)
