Kuta, Bali (ANTARA News) - International flights from Balis Ngurah Rai Airport had to be canceled due to Mount Barujari erupting in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, leaving a number of passengers stranded in the facility.

"Id rather stay here and wait for further information from the airline," France Clarisse Canton, a passenger from Paris who was scheduled to board the Jetstar airline at 14:25 local time for Melbourne, said here Tuesday.

Mrs. Canton said the airline did not inform about any flight cancelation, and she came to know of it shortly after she had arrived at the airport.

"We dont have any information from the airline. We were asked to wait for further notice after we tried to confirm about the cancelation," said Mrs Canton.

Another Jetstar passenger departing for Melbourne, Nicole Turner, also said she did not receive any cancelation notice before arriving at the airport.

The situation forced Mrs. Turner had to purchase an Air Asia ticket to Perth to reach Melbourne as her holiday in Bali is over.

"I have booked a new ticket with another airline because I have to go to work in Melbourne," said Mrs. Turner.

Eruption of Mount Barujari in Lombok forced two Australian airlines, namely Jetstar and Virgin Australia, to cancel their flights.

Besides, flights connecting Bali with several cities in Australia were cancelled. Also, flight routes to Singapore were also cancelled.

The airports operator then announced the cancelation of flights on the LCD monitor at the international departure and arrival terminals, saying, "Cancelled due to volcano."(*)
