Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian womens bridge team registered a surprise win by beating the French team, the 2015 world champions, on the first day of the World Women Elite Bridge Tournament 2015 in Beijing, China, on Monday.

The Indonesian team, comprising Lusje Bojoh, Joice Tueje, Suci Amita Dewi, Kristina Wahyu, Conny Sumampouw, and Rury Andhani and sponsored by Pertamina (state-owned energy company), won 35-32 IMP (international match point) or 10.91-9.09 VP (victory point), according to a press statement by the Jakarta chapter of the All Indonesia Bridge Association (GABSI) received here on Monday.

The GABSI Jakarta chapters spokesperson Nella Lahadimu stated that Bojoh and her colleagues achievement was the result of continual training.

"This is one of the results of good preparation. We hope the teams achievement would continue to improve and make Indonesia proud," Lahadimu noted in her press statement.

She said the team had initially faced obstacles, but due to their mental strength, they finally managed to deliver a good result despite the participation of eight of the best teams from seven countries in the world that have been specially invited to participate in the Hua Yuan Cup event.

"The eight teams come from France, the United States, Britain, the Netherlands, Italy, Indonesia, and China that had sent two teams. We hope the players would be able to continue to deliver good performance in their forthcoming matches. We already have a good capital," she affirmed.

She said Indonesias position in the championship was weak after being absent in the previous championship, and therefore, it had to play against the world champions from France on the first day. France won the world championship after beating the United States in Chennai, India.

In the initial stage, the Indonesian team lost 1-32 IMP, but the players from the Pertamina Bridge Club slowly recovered to deliver their best performance and won 35-32 IMP after finishing 16 boards, or 10.91-9.09 VP.

"We hope that during the next sessions, the Indonesian team would continue to show their best performance to promote the countrys reputation at this prestigious world-class event," she stated.
