Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - The management of Pertamina Marketing Operation Regional (MOR) VIII Maluku - Papua has started selling aviation fuel (Avtur) at Timikas Moses Kilangin airport of Papua.

So far avtur has been supplied by PT Freeport Indonesia, which owns the airport.

"Yesterday we launched Avtur at the airport of Moses Kilangin, in the regency of Mimika. We now supply airliners with Avtur at the Moses Kilangin airport," General Manager of the state owned oil and gas company for Area VIII Eldi Hendry said here on Saturday.

Eidi said Pertamina could not yet be fully operational that airport on administrative matter as the airport is owned by PT Freeport, a U.S. company, operating big copper and gold mines in Papua.

"Hopefully in one to two weeks we could operate fully at the Moses Kilangin airport," he said.

He said he hoped Pertamina would be able to always provide Avtur supply as the requirement is quite high.

"We set no quota . We provide tanks in Timika," he said.

He said the district administration has long asked for the presence of Pertamina in Timika as that airport is one of the main transit points for flight to a number of mountainous districts in Papua.

With Pertamina in Timika, flights are more easily available for district officials and the people,e he said.

Previously flight to Timika and from Timika was limited depending on the availability of Avtur from PT. Freeport, he said.

"Now flights to Makassar, Jakarta or to the mountainous area are available more easily with Avtur always available from Pertamina," he added.
