London (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - Storm Desmond has caused widespread flooding, road closures and power cuts to tens of thousands of homes in the northwest of England and parts of Scotland.

No casualty has been reported until now. But British Army has been deployed in Cumbria county to help people affected by severe flooding.

"The army has been mobilised to help those affected by Storm Desmond and floods. A COBRA meeting is happening to ensure everything is done." David Cameron said on his Twitter account on Sunday morning.

Some 60,000 homes in Cumbria, Lancashire lost their power after the flood defences at an electricity substation were breached, according to British media.

Dozens of train services have been cancelled or delayed and the Highways Agency reported that several major roads and some motorway junctions were closed due to flooding.(*)
