Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta composite index (JCI) closed slightly higher on Wednesday on minimum sentiments ahead of long Christmas and new year holidays.

The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) rose 5.08 points to 4,522.65 with index of 45 most liquid stocks down 0.13 percent to 778.10 points.

"Under the condition of declining market investors restrained from buying shares as long holiday carries risk," chief researcher of Universal Broker Indonesia Satrio Utomo said.

Foreign investors were still selling shares as they also did not want to take risk, he said.

Therefore, trade on Wednesday ended with "foreign net sell" of Rp5.286 billion, he added.

Transactions reached 167,420 times with 2.40 billion shares valued at Rp2.67 trillion changing hands .

Gainers outnumbered decliners by 142 to 138 shares with 91 shares unchanged.

Regional markets such as Hang Seng,KOSPI and Straits Times recorded gain in index.(*)
