Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Police have confiscated 1.5 tons of marijuana, worth around Rp6 billion, that was found hidden in a truck.

"The narcotic drug packed in 39 bags was hidden among 120 bags of food stuff," the director of narcotic crimes of the Directorate of Crime Investigation, Brigadier General Anjan Pramuka Putra, said at his office here on Monday.

He said the police had earlier arrested YS (31) from a rest area along the Merak toll road, Banten province in West Java.

Anjan said based on the interrogation of the suspect, who was arrested on December 16, it was found that the contraband was to be taken to Bandung, Purwakarta and Garut.

He said YS was the one responsible for picking up and keeping the illegal drug in a warehouse in West Java before distributing it to buyers in various regions.

"The drug is worth Rp6 billion but the damage it could have caused to 40,000 people, who would have consumed it, would have been immense if it had not been confiscated," Anjan said.(*)
