Palu, C Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The South Sulawesi agriculture office said it would open 6,450 hectares of new rice fields in the province this year.

Head of the local agriculture office Trie Iriani Lamakampali said his office already set aside fund for the project from the 2015 state budget.

The project, however, was not included in the development program in 2015, he said, adding, there was no new rice field opened in 2015.

The project would be carried out in 2016 in cooperation with the military, Trie said here on Wednesday.

He said the fund provided in the state budget by the central government would be used to improve far productivity in the province.

Part of the fund would be used for the repair of irrigation system, for the procurement of seeds, fertilizer and pesticides, he said.(*)
