Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian rupiah fell 0.49 percent against the US dollar in December 2015, with the lowest level of the average national middle exchange rate recorded at Rp14,013.19 per dollar, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

"The rupiahs middle exchange rate in December 2015 weakened against all foreign currencies," BPS Chairman Suryamin said at a press briefing here on Friday.

He noted that the lowest level of the middle rate was recorded in the third week of December 2015 at Rp14,080.00 per dollar in East Nusa Tenggara province.

The Indonesian currency also dropped by 0.85 percent against the Australian dollar in December 2015, with the lowest level of middle rate recorded at Rp10,101.87 per Australian dollar in the second week of December 2015, he noted.

The lowest level of the middle rate was recorded in the second week of December 2015 at Rp10,213.75 per dollar in Bangka Belitung province.

The local unit also depreciated by 2.16 percent against the Japanese yen in December 2015, with the lowest level of middle rate being recorded at Rp116.69 per yen in the third week of December 2015 in North Maluku province.

"The lowest level of the rupiahs average national retail middle rate against the yen was recorded at Rp114.85 per yen in the third week of December 2015," he said.

The Indonesian currency also plummeted by 2.80 percent against the euro in December 2015, with the lowest level of average national retail middle rate recorded at Rp15,314.31 per euro in the third week of December 2015.

Southeast Sulawesi province recorded the lowest level of middle rate at Rp15,436.76 per euro in the same week.(*)
