Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Metro Jaya Police, the regional police department of the Greater Jakarta area, is preparing some strong evidence to charge a suspect in the Mirna murder case, a spokesperson stated.

"From our experiences, generally a suspect in a murder case will not plead guilty, so it needs rigorous investigation to prove it," Metro Jaya Police spokesperson Muhammad Iqbal noted here on Tuesday.

Wayan Mirna Salihin (27) died after drinking iced coffee allegedly laced with cyanide at the Olivier cafe in the Grand Indonesia Mall on January 6, 2016.

Mirna began convulsing after sipping the coffee and was then rushed to a hospital, but she did not survive.

At present, the police said they are still preparing the evidence and witnesses, including some experts to corroborate the proofs.

"We are not looking for the suspect to plead but are gathering crystal-clear evidence, which is undeniable," Iqbal noted.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta Metro Jaya Police have arrested Jessica Kumala Wongso after naming her a suspect in the Mirna murder case.

"The decision to categorize her as a suspect was taken last night. This morning, Jessica was arrested from a hotel," Director for Criminal Investigation Affairs of the Jakarta Police, Senior Commissioner Khrisna Murti, remarked here on Saturday.

Jessica was arrested on Saturday morning (Jan. 30) from the hotel where she was staying after the police found her house empty.

Mirna, Jessica, and another friend named Hani had met that day in the cafe. They had previously studied together in Australia.(*)
