Pati, C Java (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Security and Legal Affairs Luhut Panjaitan has revealed that military might participate in the efforts to eradicate drugs, along with the police.

"Later, the military could back the police in the fight against drugs trafficking," the minister said on Tuesday at a gathering at the Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren) of Maslakul Huda Kajen, Margoyoso in Pati, Central Java.

Luhut further said that although the military will be involved, it would remain under the control of the police.

The menace of drugs trafficking, he said, had spread to various groups, including boarding schools.

In case a boarding school where instances of narcotics such as ecstasy have been found, the drug was initially pushed as a medication to build stamina, and then students became addicted to it.

The addiction can lead to even death. It has been recorded that 30-40 people die due to drugs in the course of a single day.

In addition to other threats, the drug is also known to cause transmission of HIV/AIDS.

Therefore, all parties are expected to involve themselves in combating drug circulation.(*)
