Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The statutes (AD) and rules of association (ART) will be changed to strengthen unity in the party and to prevent dualism, stated Vice President Jusuf Kalla, concurrently chairman of the Golkar Partys Transitional Team.

"Provisions of the AD/ART can be modified to emphasize the importance of unity and integrity in the party," Kalla remarked after bringing together Agung Laksono and Aburizal Bakrie in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Kalla noted that the measure will be adopted to prevent internal conflict in the party, which can again divide the management of Golkar.

The one-year conflict between Aburizal and Agung should serve as a valuable experience for the Golkar Party to prevent a recurrence in future.

"Experience is the best teacher, and the one-year separation should be an important learning experience. Therefore, the system in the party must be improved, and the national congress must be democratic," Kalla emphasized.

The vice president invited Bakrie and Laksono to his official residence to discuss the plan of the extraordinary national congress (munaslub).

President Joko Widodo was optimistic that an immediate settlement would be reached to the internal problems of the Golkar Party.

The president hoped that the internal conflict in one of the biggest political parties in the country would be immediately settled, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung noted last Wednesday.

"We have reported to the president even during his recent visit to Dili. The president has also communicated with the coordinating minister for political, security and legal affairs, and just now, we also reported to him about the recent development, and in essence, he hopes it (the problem) would really be settled," he revealed.

The government supports the efforts to settle the Golkar problem, Pramono remarked.

"Just now, we discussed with the president about what has been decided in the recent Golkar leadership meeting. We do not want to differentiate between the Ancol and the Bali-version Golkar Party. The Golkar Party now is the one coming from the last congress in Riau," he said.

The government hopes that the issues in the Golkar Party would be settled soon through a democratic mechanism in place in the party, Pramono stated.

"Certainly, the government has hailed the decision of the Golkar Party and has honored it. We really hope it would be the final settlement of the problem," he added.(*)
