Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia has urged North Korea to respect and abide by the United Nations resolutions and restrain from making provocative actions.

In a statement received here on Sunday, Indonesia's foreign ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir said Indonesia regretted the North Korean launching of a long-range rocket on Sunday.

He said Indonesia had regretted the North Korean action of not respecting international appeals against it.

"The action violated the UN Resolutions," he said referring to UN Resolutions number 1718 (2006), 1874 (2009) and 2087 (2013).

The Indonesian government also considered the act as creating tension in the region, he said.

In view of that Indonesia has appealed to all parties to take steps to reduce the tension.

Several other countries such as the US, South Korea, Japan and China have also expressed criticism against the North Korean action.
