"We want to increase the amount of our loans to the Indonesian government. At my discussion with Vice President Jusuf Kalla, we discussed grand infrastructure development in Indonesia, and we will increase our loans for the purpose," Takehiko said at the Vice Presidential Office here Thursday.
ADB loans to the Indonesian government continued to increase since 2014 when the loans reached US$710 million, he said.
In 2015, the loans increased to $1.5 billion.
"We want to support development in Indonesia not only in the infrastructure sector but also in the education, public finance and private sectors," he said.
The ADBs wish to increase its loans to Indonesia is based on the latest infrastructure development in the country, Vice Presidential Secretary Mohamad Oemar said.
"ADB sees the infrastructure development in Indonesia having positive prospects. Therefore, financially, it will expand its participation in it," he said.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla positively welcomes the ADBs offer, he said.
Earlier, ADB had disbursed loans worth $120 billion to improve transmission system and electrical power distribution in Sumatra.
The figure represents one-fifth of the total loans the Manila-based bank will provide to Indonesia in 2016 at $60 billion.(*)
