Jakarta (ANTARA News) - An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale jolted East Halmahera area in North Maluku early on Thursday morning.

Information from Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that the epicenter of the quake that occurred at 2.26 am East Indonesia Standard Time (WIT) was located at 0.91 degrees northern latitude and 129.04 Eastern Longintude at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The epicenter was also located some 76 kilometers southeast of East Halmahera, and 143 kilometer southeast of North Halmahera, but did not have a potential to create a tsunami.(*)
