Sukabumi, W Java (ANTARA News) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) personnel seized a ton of marijuana from a truck during a raid on Sukabumi-Cianjur road, Pasiripis hamlet, Tegal Panjang Village, West Java, on early Friday at 00:15 a.m. local time.
However, during the raid, conducted by the BNN personnel and policemen from the Sukabumi District police precinct, the truck driver and owner of the marijuana had fled, Chief of the BNN-Sukabumi District office Deni Yusdanial stated here on Friday.
Thanks to the tip-off received from the local people, the BNN and police then intensified their surveillance of the suspected truck bearing license plate number F 8583 SJ, he revealed, adding that the dried marijuana was smuggled from Sumatra to be sold in West Java Province.
"We have been working closely with the police to track down the truck driver," Yusdanial affirmed.
Meanwhile, Chief of the BNN-Cianjur District office Henddrik noted that the truck carrying the marijuana had been followed from Cianjur area, but it then entered the Sukabumi District area to disembark its cargo.
He suspected that the packed marijuana was being moved to small trucks.(*)
