Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Vice President M Jusuf Kalla discussed Middle East issues, in particular the Palestinian problem, with leaders of Tunisia, Azerbaijan and Turkey.

The discussions came on the sidelines of the Fifth Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), here on Monday.

"Discussions were particularly about the situation in the Middle East and how to unite Islamic nations and how to push for the unity of Palestine, and to solve these problems," Jusuf Kalla said.

Kalla held separate bilateral meetings with Tunisian Foreign Affairs Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui, Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Elchin Afandiyev, and Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Numan Kurtulmus.

The struggle for Palestines sovereignty could not be carried out by one country alone, he remarked.

He assured that Indonesia has always supported Palestine in the struggle to gain its independence.

"There is no single country that could overcome these problems alone. It should be done together, by working with others," Kalla noted.

He urged the Palestinian people, particularly the Hamas and the Fatah factions, to unite against the Israeli occupation.

Kalla also called on various countries supporting Palestine to increase their economic and cultural ties with Palestine.

In the meetings, Kalla was accompanied by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said, Trade Minister Thomas Trikasih Lembong and Deputy Foreign Minister AM Fachir.

Indonesia hosted the OICs extraordinary summit on March 6 and 7, 2016.
