"Our fishery potential is extraordinary as now only Indonesia has abundant fish stocks," Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Abundant fishery resources are currently only found in the seas of Indonesias maritime territory, and their sustainability should be maintained, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti stated.

"Our fishery potential is extraordinary as now only Indonesia has abundant fish stocks," Minister Pudjiastuti stated at a fishery business and investment forum held here, Wednesday.

She called on the citizens to help protect the fishery resources as they only had access to the seas and not to mining areas.

The minister also called for the optimal empowerment of potential aquaculture areas that cover some five million hectares.

Norway and Scotland are some of the countries that have successfully tapped into their aquaculture potential, she pointed out.

She called on banks to help offer credits to businessmen interested to engage in sustainable fishery businesses.

Aquaculture Director General of the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry Slamet Soebjakto noted that the ministry will organize the Indoaqua-Asia Pacific Aquaculture Expo in Surabaya, East Java, on April 26.(*)
