Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government will continue to focus on improving regulations and infrastructure to attract investment into the country.

"The government will continue to focus on improving regulations and infrastructure," President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated here on Wednesday.

The president remarked that the downstream industries could be developed as Indonesia was in a position to construct such facilities.

With regard to regulatory reforms, the president has requested Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo to remove as many as three thousand local regulations that tend to slow down the business licensing process.

"We want to make it simple," the president remarked.

The president urged the ministers to facilitate foreign investors.

"The government will also build infrastructure facilities such as roads and ports to boost industrial development," the president emphasized.

The president revealed that investors were required to develop transportation and logistics infrastructure.
To speed up infrastructure development, the president continues to monitor several projects periodically, including the development of the Trans-Sumatra highway and the Trans-Sulawesi railway.

In addition, President Widodo also urged several state-owned enterprises to accelerate infrastructure development.

"If we want to compete with other countries, we should cut logistics and transportation costs. There is no other choice," the president added.
