Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia and South Korea are boosting cooperation in the field of procurement, following up on a memorandum of understanding signed earlier.

The Indonesian Procurement Agency for Goods, Services (LKPP) held a meeting with the Public Procurement Service Agency of South Korea (PPS) on Thursday (March 31), a statement issued by the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul and received by ANTARA News.

In addition to discussing the formulation of policies to optimize the product catalogue, the two sides also agreed on technology transfer through information technology experts.

"This year, there are two areas to be developed as far as technology transfer is concerned. One is in the field of procurement of goods and services, namely the development of policy, and the other is development of information technology," the Head of LKPP, Agus Prabowo, said.

He added that Indonesia and South Korea will send information technology experts to learn the system applied by each country.

According to Agus, the procurement market in Indonesia has a great potential to support the economy of Indonesia.

This is also an opportunity for foreign entrepreneurs to contribute towards strengthening the Indonesian domestic market. It will improve the business climate and the market in Indonesia will become increasingly competitive.

"With Indonesias vast area, LKPP cannot undertake procurement all by itself. It should be assisted by various other parties to create a huge market," he said.

Agus remarked that Korea is proposing technical cooperation with KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency).

According to the Coordinator of Economic Affairs of the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, Vedi K. Buana, in 2017, KOICA will extend technical assistance for capacity building in the form of 2-3 weeks training in Korea.

As for the Korean Procurement Exhibition (KOPPEX) 2016 in Goyang-si, on Wednesday (March 30), PPS Korea invited more than 250 companies around the world to promote their products and the latest technology.

Besides the exhibition, PPS also invited several world organizations such as the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the International Trade Centre (ITC), the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and LKPP.
