Banyuwangi (ANTARA News) - Southeast Asia BMX racer from Indonesia Elga Kharisma Novanda and Jimmi Therkelsen from Denmark came out as the champions of the Banyuwangi International BMX competition ending here on Sunday.

Elga emerged as the champion in the womens elite while Therkelsen from the mens at the competition held at Muncar Circuit in the district of Banyuwangi, East Java.

In the second round Elga showed her self-confidence before thousands of spectators. From the start to the first turn the girl from Malang, East Java, showed her domination and after that she was overshadowed by Thai racer Chutikan Kitwanitsathian.

Before the finish line the Thai race however had to compete tightly against Regina Patricia Panie from the Indonesian province of West Nusa Tenggara and Cupti Novianti from West Java to maintain her position giving an advanuutage to Elga and making her to reach the finish line first, followed by Kitwanitsathian and Regina.

"The victory meets the target. From the beginning I have indeed wished to become the champion in the event," she said after the race.

She said the victory increased her point collection to 100 for use to meet the championships in Japan and Thailand.

"Two weeks after this event I will go to Japan and after that I will probably proceed to Thailand," she said.

Tight competition occurred in the mens elite final round in which Indonesian racer, Tony Syarifudin, who is being groomed to compete in the Olympic Games 2016 failed to improve his performance.

In the second round this time, Tony had to be satisfied with his third position.

The first position was taken by Jimmi Therkelsen from Denmark and the runner-up position was taken by Nonthakon Inkhoksong from Thailand.

Indonesias other National Training Center racer, Rio Akbar, finished fourth.

Therkelsen performed impressively from the start of the race with Tony following him before his position was taken over by Inkhoksong in the first turn. Tony tried to take a maneuver in the third turn but his effort failed.

After being unable to perform maximally in the event Tony said he wished to compensate for it by performing better in a number of other international events.

"I have to continue to participate in the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) Point Race because the deadline for point collection is on May 31," the racer from Solo, Central Java, said.

After competing in Banyuwangi, Tony would take part in the events in Japan and Thailand. "My schedule is the same as Elgas," he said.

The junior mens elite champion title was taken by Kyle Green from Australia.(*)
