Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has caught a 36-year old Nigerian woman on charges of drug trafficking following a tip-off from the public.

"The case came to the light after we received a tip-off from members of the public that there would be a drug related transaction at a hotel in Yogyakarta," BNN Chief Commissioner General Budi Waseso said here on Wednesday.

BNN sent its officer to monitor the hotel and found a person suspected of carrying drugs leaving the hotel for Jakarta by train.

Shortly after arriving in Jakarta, the person, suspected of being a courier, went to the capitals western outskirts of Tangerang.

"The BNN foiled the bid to trade 688.7 grams of crystal meth in front of a house-shop in Poris area, Batu Ceper sub-district, Tangerang municipality, on April 14, 2016. We caught the suspect, identified by his initials as YAK (37), after he handed over crystal meth to a 39-year old person identified as ISK," he stated.

Based on information from YAK, the BNN officers arrested a 36-year old person identified as DS at an apartment in Karawaci, west of Jakarta, on the same day, he further revealed.

The BNN officers also arrested the Nigerian woman, identified by her initials as LN, in Dagen area, Yogyakarta, he added.

The suspects have been charged with violating the narcotics law. If found guilty, they can be sentenced to death or life imprisonment.(*)
