Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA News) - Tangerang city in Banten Province has received the Indonesia Digital Economy Award 2016 from MarkPlus for successfully developing a digital city.

MarkPlus founder Hermawan Kertajaya lauded all parties involved in the development of creative economy in Indonesia.

"This award is expected to inspire other parties and spur their creativity to have a positive impact on the society and the environment," Hermawan remarked here on Wednesday.

Mayor of Tangerang Arief Wismansyah noted that the city had various areas of potential, including the smart city development concept.

Wismansyah stated that the existence of the Soekarno Hatta International Airport, as part of Tangerang city in the west of Jakarta, had contributed in improving accessibility, not to mention the toll road connecting Tangerang to other major cities in Indonesia.

"Some 83 million people per year transit at the Soekarno Hatta Airport in Tangerang, and this should serve as the basis for developing the aerotropolis city in Tangerang in the future," the mayor emphasized.

In addition, he claimed that as part of the bureaucratic reforms currently being carried out by the central government, the local government had also made improvements in terms of offering public services, such as by providing more transparent and measurable services through the use of information technology.

"Currently, we are developing e-health applications to improve public health services after having created no less than 130 applications aimed at improving public services in the city of Tangerang," he added.(*)
