Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The West Jakarta district court has meted out 20-year jail term each for two Nigerians for drug trafficking.

Chukwudkpe Donotus Okorie (30) and Hyginus Oginuwa (44) were arrested by the customs security authority at the Soekarno Hatta airport in October 2015 on charge of smuggling 4,000 grams of methamphetamine into the country.

The two tried to smuggle the drug from China into the country allegedly to be delivered to two Indonesians identified as Elizabeth and Harahap, now in police lift of wanted people.

Presiding judge M. Tatas said in his verdict on Wednesday the two were also fined Rp1 billion each .

Public prosecutor Nugraha, who demanded life sentence for Chukwudkpe and Hyginus, said he was considering to appeal the verdict.

Erickson Napitupulu, the lawyers of the two convicts, said he would discuss the verdict with them as it is for them to decide whether to appeal the verdict or not.

In Indonesia drug trafficking is categorized as extraordinary crime and President Joko Widodo has repeatedly said he would not give clemency for drug convicts.

Meanwhile, the attorney general office indicated 15 more drug death row convicts would soon be executed.

Attorney General HM Prasetyo said the date was not yet set for the execution, but "coordination and preparations have been completed."

"There are a lot of things to be considered. It is not something simple," he was quoted as saying earlier.

Last year in January and April, firing squads executed 14 drug convicts mostly foreign nationals, drawing international condemnation.(*)
