The Government spent huge funds every year for tourism promotion of other regions, apart from Bali, he said here on Sunday after launching Fun Walk for Wonderful Toba.
The promotion, however, has so far failed to focus on promoting other regions beyond Bali because, the funds were allocated for 80 tourist destinations plus 200 additional regions, he remarked.
Indonesia has various tourist attractions which are as beautiful as Bali, he noted.
This year, the government has changed the strategy by focusing just on 10 tourist destinations.
The funds will also be used to develop infrastructure in those regions.
Lake Toba, which has beautiful scenery, is one of the 10 priority tourist destinations.
The government is developing supporting infrastructure and improving the cleanliness of the lake and its surroundings.
A toll road will be built to connect the Kuala Namu airport with the lake. A ring road will also be constructed around Samosir Island, which is located in the middle of Lake Toba.
Some 10 thousand people participated in the fun walk to promote Lake Toba.(*)
