Purwakarta, W Java (ANTARA News) - Hundreds of residents of Sukakerti Village in Cisalak Sub-district, Subang District, West Java, were displaced due to a flash flood, which hit the region on Sunday.

"According to data, some 388 residents are taking refuge. They had to be evacuated in anticipation of possible subsequent flooding," Head of the Subang Police Office Adjunct Senior Commissioner Agus Nurpatria stated here on Monday.

The authority has deployed at least 165 police personnel and 50 auxiliaries of the Military District Command 0605 of Subang along with the officials of the civil service, social affairs office, and local health office in the disaster area.

A disaster mitigation post and makeshift public kitchen have been set up at the administration office of Sukakerti Village.

Head of Taruna Siaga Bencana of Subang Jajang stated that the flash flood was caused by torrential rains in the Cisalak area, which is located at a higher ground on the Bukit Tunggul Mount.

The rains had triggered landslides in three areas in Bukanagara Village.

The mud had blocked the flow of Cihideung River, but the water broke the dam and caused flooding in the village.

According to data, at least 32 houses have suffered severe damage, five residents have died, and one person was still missing due to the flash flood.(*)
