Jakarta (ANTARA News) - City-owned bus operator PT Transjakarta launched on Monday a free double-decker bus service for people keen to enjoy a culinary tour of the capital city.

President Director of Transjakarta Budi Kaliwono stated here on Monday that the double-decker buses will be in service from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. local time, operating on a route from the Jakarta City Hall to the Old City in the northern part of Jakarta.

"These buses were designed as a safe, comfortable, clean, and informative mode of transportation to take passengers to several night culinary destinations in Jakarta," Kaliwono explained.

A guide will be on board and provide information to the passengers during the tour.

Passengers will also be distributed booklets containing information of the destinations, stops, and the operating hours of the tour bus.

The Jakarta administration has also operated free double-decker tour buses since February 2014 to serve from the very center of the city, starting at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle before heading past the National Monument to the Istiqlal mosque, and continuing on to the State Palace and City Hall before returning back to Hotel Indonesia.

The city bus operator has also expanded its fleet and service to take passengers to further destinations, such as Jakartas main avenue, Sudirman Road.(*)
