Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian National News Agency, Antara, promotes every effort to call for Palestinian independence through its intense news broadcasting.

"We are supporting the governments program. Since the beginning of his political campaign, President Joko Widodo has been calling for the Palestinian independence," the news director of Antara, Aat Surya Safaat, said here on Monday.

He explained that countries participating in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit some time ago had agreed that efforts to support the cause of independence for Palestine, currently occupied by Israel, is an important agenda for all nations.

"In fact, one of the clauses stated that the role of the media cannot be ignored. The media must continue to pursue the formation of public opinion in favor of liberation of Palestine," Aat stated.

He added that the issues of the Palestinian liberation and independence tend to be sidelined by other news.

Currently, the prominent issues related to the Islamic world are dominated by humanitarian conflicts in the Islamic countries in the Middle East region, he explained.

"Arab Spring, the conflicts in Egypt, Libya and Syria, and the indirect war between Saudi Arabia and Iran dominate the news about Islam. It is unfortunate that the Palestinian issues remain sidelined," he rued.

Therefore, the Miraj Islamic News Agency (MINA) and ANTARA will make efforts to revive the issue of Palestine through the International Conference of Islamic Media (ICIM) on May 25-26, 2016 in Jakarta.

The event will witness the participation of 17 representatives of the media and academics around the world. They will come from Britain, the United States, Palestine, Egypt, Nigeria, Malaysia, Iran, Tunisia, Lebanon, Turkey, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Libya, Sudan, Australia and Indonesia.(*)
