Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detained former speaker of the Riau Legislative Assembly Johar Firdaus after eight hours grilling on charge of corruption.

Johar, who was speaker of the regional legislative assembly in the 2009-2014 period was charged with accepting bribe to smooth debate on regional budget in 2014.

His lawyer Razman Arif Nasution said he proposed that the trial should be made in Jakarta instead of Pekanbaru, to prevent intervention.

Razman also said he wanted the court investigations should be expanded by also questioning a number of other regional officials and lawmakers.

On Tuesday, KPK investigated Regent of Rokan Hulu Suparman and Johar as graft suspects. They are accused of receiving bribe from former Riau Governor Anas Maamun, who is now serving jail term.(*)
