Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) here, Friday, officiated the completion of seven power plant projects in Banten Province to strengthen electricity supply in Jakarta and Banten.

The head of state also attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Lontar Steam Power Plant (PLTU) in Lontar Village, Kemiri, Tangerang.

"One by one, power plants built in our country, from Sabang to Merauke, will become operational. We hope to achieve the 35 thousand-MW target. By saying Bismilahirrohamanirrohim, I inaugurate PLTU Lontars fourth unit and electricity infrastructure projects for Jakarta and Banten, which are completed," Jokowi affirmed.

The president also witnessed the groundbreaking of the Bojanegara-Suralayas 500 kV- super-high voltage electricity network, Muara Karang Baru-Muara Karang Lamas 150 kV- high-voltage cable channels, Cibinong-Gandarias 150 kV- high-voltage grid Uprating, and Depok Baru IIs 150kV- Gas Insulated Switchgear.

On the occasion, the president also inaugurated several power supply sub-stations and transmission links in Jakarta and Banten.

The president asked the audience whether any of them had no access to electricity, in response to which 19 stepped forward and claimed to not have electricity at home.

Jokowi called on the president director of State Utility Company PT PLN to install electricity connections in the homes of the 19 residents.(*)
