I do not think there will be any problem."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - National Police Chief General Badrodin Haiti on Wednesday expressed confidence that Commissioner General Tito Karnavian would be accepted by all sections of the society, including those in the police force.

Tito Karnavian has been named by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as the sole candidate to replace General Badrodin Haiti who is to retire at the end of next month.

"I think he will be accepted by all police officials at the national police headquarters," Badrodin Haiti said after attending a limited cabinet meeting at the Presidential Office.

He hailed Tito as a man of multiple capabilities. "He is smart and good at communicating. He is also good in choosing how to approach an issue. I do not think there will be any problem," he stated.

Asked if his successor was not too young, Badrodin observed that age is not a problem if one has the potential.

"Now, only someone who has potential can lead. It is no longer a matter of seniority," he reiterated.

He noted that those who were occupying positions at the headquarters could continue in their posts but for Kapolri (national police chief), there is only one candidate.

"It is not possible for everyone to be in a leadership position. There is only one top job, and the person best suited for it will be chosen," he continued.

Asked if his seniors would accept the Presidents decision, General Badrodin expressed the confidence that they would certainly accept the name that the President has chosen.

"We, all ranking police officials, have conceded that Tito has a certain superiority. Indeed, he is still young but in terms of his capabilities, everyone will be happy to accept his appointment," he argued.

President Joko Widodo on Wednesday submitted the name of Commissioner General Tito Karnavian, currently the chief of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency, as the sole candidate for the next national police chief, to the House of Representatives for its approval.

The chief of the National Anti-Narcotic Agency, Commissioner General Budi Waseso, also extended his support to Commissioner General Tito Karnavians nomination as the next Kapolri.

"This is the decision of the President that we must honor. The best has been chosen from among the good ones. I support Pak (Mr) Tito as Kapolri," he stressed.

He argued that there is no problem about someone being junior or senior and the main factor was who has the capabilities to lead in the best way possible.

Presidential spokesman Johan Budi said Kapolris nomination is the prerogative of the president but in choosing Commissioner General Tito Karnavian, the President must have certainly collected inputs from various parties including Kompolnas (national police commission), Polri (the national police) as well as the general public.

"Tito Karnavian is one of the names submitted by Kompolnas," he mentioned.
