But mainly, it is to focus on police reforms."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Head of the Terrorism Countermeasures Agency Commissioner General Tito Karnavian, who is the candidate for the Indonesian Police chiefs post, affirmed that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had urged the police to continue implementing institutional reforms.

"I cannot elaborate on all the details of the messages the president had given me. But mainly, it is to focus on police reforms," Karnavian noted here on Thursday.

Karnavian said if he is selected as the chief of Police, he will encourage professionalism in his department.

Karnavian revealed his plan to implement three main programs to improve the Indonesian Polices professionalism in offering public services, law enforcement process, and professional handling of crimes.

Karnavian remarked that State Secretary Pratikno and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung had informed him on being chosen as the candidate for the Indonesian Police chiefs post.

Karnavian also said he was asked to propose a name for the candidacy to which he responded by saying that the candidate should be a senior officer.

"However, I was later informed about the decision, and it came from the superintendence. As a private, I cannot refuse the command," Karnavian stated.

Karnavian graduated from the Police Academy in 1987. He had earlier served as the head of the Papuan Regional Police and the Jakarta Regional Police.

He also earned a doctorate degree from the Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and a masters degree from the University of Exeter, England.
