Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi has confirmed that there were no Indonesian victims in Tuesdays suicide bomb attack on Atatruk International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey, that killed 28 people and wounded several others.

"Based on the information we received from our embassy in Ankara and the consulate general in Istanbul, there were no Indonesian victims of the bomb attack," Marsudi remarked at the Presidential Palace complex here on Wednesday.

The foreign affairs minister noted that the chairman of the Indonesian Students Association in Turkey had also informed her on Wednesday morning that there were no Indonesian victims.

Currently, there are some 728 Indonesian citizens in Turkey, of which 310 are students, while the rest are workers in the country.

In the meantime, a Foreign Affairs Ministrys press statement received here on Wednesday said the Indonesian government has condemned the bomb attack.

"Indonesia strongly condemns the terrorist attacks and expresses sympathy and profound condolences to the victims and their families, the government, and the Turkish people for the incident," according to the press statement.

Reuters reported that two suicide bombers on Tuesday had opened fire before blowing themselves up at the entrance to the main international airport in Istanbul.

The police fired shots in an attempt to stop the attackers just before they reached a security checkpoint at the arrival hall of the Ataturk airport, but they blew themselves up.

Ataturk is Turkeys largest airport and a major transport hub for international travelers. Pictures posted on social media from the site showed wounded people lying on the ground within and outside one of the terminal buildings.
