Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Alms Agency (Baznas) had forecast that Indonesia could potentially collect some Rp286 trillion as alms in 2015, although the amount of funds gathered was rather low.

According to information revealed in 2011, the alms potential in 2010 reached Rp217 trillion, Baznas Chairman Bambang Sudibyo stated at the State Palace, here, Thursday.

However, due to low public awareness, only Rp3.7 trillion were collected, and Rp2.2 trillion were channeled last year.

Sudibyo expressed gratitude to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and several cabinet ministers, who had given alms to Baznas.

President Jokowi gave alms on June 28, and several ministers followed suit at the palace on Thursday.

Sudibyo, the former finance minister, believed that if alms could be fully collected from across the nation, it could narrow the social gap in society.
