Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) paid the last tribute to the body of Indonesian Ambassador to Croatia Alexander Litaay, who was laid in state at the Pancasila Building of the Foreign Ministry here on Thursday night.

The president, accompanied by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, arrived at the building at 07.40 p.m. local time. He was greeted by Deputy Foreign Minister Abdurrahman M. Fachir and Head of State Protocol Andri Hadi upon arrival.

The body of the ambassador had arrived at the building five minutes earlier.

Minister/State Secretary Pratikno and Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo also paid tribute to Alexander.

The president later met with the deceaseds family to offer condolences over his demise.

Alexander was appointed Indonesias Ambassador to Croatia, along with 12 other ambassadors on January 13 this year.

In a press statement released on Monday, the Foreign Ministry said Ambassador Alexander had heart disease and had suffered from a stroke in April.

The ambassador had been in a state of coma since April 25.

Born in Ambon, the capital of Maluku province, on October 1, 1948, Alexander is survived by a wife and three children.(*)
