"I think the person will be made known soon. The candidate will be discussed by the team after this," Luhut Pandjaitan said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A final assessment team (TPA) led by President Joko Widodo will soon hold a meeting to discuss the replacement of General Tito Karnavian as the chief of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT).

"I think the person will be made known soon. The candidate will be discussed by the team after this," the Coordinating Minister for Political, Security and Legal Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan said at the presidential palace here on Thursday.

He said President Joko Widodo had led a meeting of the team on Thursday morning to discuss the first echelon positions at ministries, state institutions and other strategic offices.

"We have indeed discussed official positions but it has not yet touched the discussion about BNPT," he said.

Luhut admitted that Tito had kept three names he would propose as candidates for the new BNPT chief. "Yes, I have checked it but it would be inappropriate for me to disclose them now," he said.

Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung has said that General Tito would not hold double positions as National Police Chief and Head of BNPT for long.

Soon after his inauguration as the new Police Chief, General Tito must immediately propose names of candidates to replace him as BNPT Chief.

"The BNPT Chief has now become the National Police Chief and so he must immediately propose names of candidates for selection to replace him as BNPT Chief and it must not take long," he said.

Pramono said selection of the new BNPT chief would not be as complicated as the selection of the National Police Chief because it would only have to pass TPS and it happens that he is one of the team members.

He said after the new National Police Chief has chosen candidates their names would be submitted to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Security and Legal Affairs before the replacement is finally done.

"The names will be consulted first by the National Police Chief before they are taken to the President," he added.(*)
