But this time, it received no support from civilians."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - No further attempt at a military coup will happen in Turkey after the failed such bid on Friday night, a military and political observer said.

"I think there will be no second military coup attempt in Turkey in the near future as elements behind such an attempt who claimed to be part of military received little support that was not significant," Prof. DR Salim Said, who is also a professor at the Defense University, said during a discussion here on Saturday.

He believed that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan must have consolidated his hold upon the security agencies, including the police, and that those trying to overthrow the legitimate government will increasingly become weak.

Alfan Alfian of Nasional University, who is also an observer of Turkish politics, shared Salims view saying there is little likelihood of a second military coup attempt against the legitimate Turkish government in the near future.

"The coup attempt this time followed the same pattern as that of coup attempts in 1960 and 1980. But this time, it received no support from civilians," he said.

Military personnel took to the streets to see whether or not the public would support the coup attempt, he said, but there was no support from civilians.

The failed coup attempt against the legitimate Turkish government happened on Friday night.

A group of people who claimed to be part of the Turkish military said they have taken over power from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was reportedly on a working visit abroad.

However, the Turkish people along with the military who were opposed to the coup attempt, took to the street to protest against it and foiled it.
