"The best Indonesian graduates were recruited through a tough selection, both academically and mentally. They will act as partners of the people living in remote areas," Sudirman said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said bade farewell to the second batch of energy patriots, who will develop new and renewable energy in remote areas in Indonesia.

"The best Indonesian graduates were recruited through a tough selection, both academically and mentally. They will act as partners of the people living in remote areas so they will be the hands and eyes of energy," Sudirman stated during a press conference at his office here on Saturday.

In performing their duties, the energy patriots will cooperate with state electricity company PT PLN, relevant ministries and government institutions and the community to pioneer and maintain electricity networks in target areas. The electricity networks mostly comprise of solar power plants.

The academic capability of the energy patriots is badly needed to develop electricity in remote areas. They must conduct researches in target areas by managing and recording data, Sudirman noted.

In the remote villages, they will also identify problems, assist local people in fulfilling power needs, ensure the realization of the New and Renewable Energy Directorate Generals projects to achieve their target, and develop electrical power depots.

"They have been groomed to become cadres, who are prepared to act in difficult areas. To obtain their monthly honorariums they must spend the night in other areas because of the long distance between the remote villages and the area. They will also return to the villages the following day. They will have formidable duties because they have to deal with all technical disturbances in the field," he concluded.(*)
