Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Global issues such as terrorism dominated the retreat session at the eleventh Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), according to a press statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by ANTARA here Monday.

On the second day of the event in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on July 16, Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla attended the retreat accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, A.M. Fachir.

The session was held under the theme, "Improving the ASEMs Three Pillars of Politics, Economy, and Socio-culture".

In addition to terrorism, as well as security and peace in region, the retreat also discussed Brexit and migration issues.

The ASEM leaders conveyed their concerns and condemned the terror attacks that took place at several locations across the world, especially in the Asian and European regions, one of which happened in Nice, France on July 15, 2016.

The ASEM countries leaders agreed to enhance international cooperation on handling terrorism according to international laws and the UN charter.

Understanding the root causes of terrorism was needed to solve such problems, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said.

"We should figure out the root causes of all terror attacks that occur around the world, including the ones in developed countries," he said.

The statement was agreed and supported by other ASEM countries leaders.(*)
