Jakarta (ANTARA News) - As many as 19 cycling teams will be participating in the 2016 Tour de Jakarta international cycling race being held in Jakarta on Saturday (July 30).

The participants comprise 13 local teams, such as United Bike Kencana, CC, KFC Cycling Team, BRCC and six international teams such as Action Cycling Team Taiwan, 7 Eleven Philippines, and Terengganu Cycling Team Malaysia.

Race Director of the Tour de Jakarta, Jamaludin Mahmood, said here on Tuesday that the event will bring the cyclists to a 175.5km race along Jakartas main avenue in the capital citys metropolitan area.

The racers will start in front of Bank Indonesia, the central bank, and cruise through the MH.Thamrin and General Sudirman Road for 13 laps before finishing the race back where they started.

Each team consists of five to seven riders who will compete in three race categories; individual, group and intermediate sprint during the one-day race that will start from 06:30 am - 11.00 am local time.

Meanwhile, in the group category, three best groups will win the prize. There will also be a special award for the best Indonesian rider.

The Tour de Jakarta, which has been on the UCI calendar, is also used to promote national tourism, Assistant Deputy of Personnel Market Segment Development of the Ministry of Tourism, Raseno Arya, added.

The Tour de Jakarta is held a few days before the annual Tour de Singkarak scheduled for August 6-14 in West Sumatra.

The prestigous cycling race consists of eight stages which will cover 1102.7km from Solok to Padang, passing around Lake Singkarak and running through inland cities of West Sumatra.
