Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - The South Sumatra police have foiled an attempt to circulate 1.2 kilograms of methamphetamine in the province.

Director of anti drug detectives of the regional police Sr. Comr. Irawan David Syah said the suspects were arrested on Tuesday before they succeeded in distributing the drug .

There were five suspects arrested after intensive investigations in two days.

The suspects included a Acehnese pair of DS (32) and his wife SA (22) both nabbed on Friday at the parking place of the International Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II airport.

The husband and wife just arrived from Medan carrying 700 grams of methamphetamine stashed in their shoes.

The other three were arrested on Saturday including Nofran Haryadi, SN and Feri with 500 grams of the drug . They were from Tulung Selapan, the district of OKI.

Police also confiscated a number of hand phones and the shoes that were used to hide the drug.

"It is not impossible that the five belonged to the same drug ring . Police are still doing investigations. Another suspect is still at large," Irawan said.(*)
